"Butterfly Garden Adventures" Reader’s Theater with local playwright Annie Hough

Fargo Public Library

Star in the debut production of local playwright Annie Hough’s new play! Hough received a 2023 The Arts Partnership Individual Arts Partnership grant, and the reader’s theater performance will be produced and video recorded as part of the grant.

Open to kids in grades 1-7. There are opportunities for advanced readers/older kids to perform the speaking roles, and early readers/younger kids to play non-speaking roles. If kids are interested in helping to create simple costumes and prop pieces but don’t want to perform, please call the Children's Services Dept. at 701.241.1495.

Please note:
Parents/legal guardians must sign and turn in a video release form prior to the event.
Kids will be reading from the script, there is no need to memorize lines.

Another solar eclipse is on the way! On April 8, North America will again experience a total eclipse of the Sun. Kids ages 3-5 are invited to learn more about the Sun and the Moon and what causes an eclipse at this special Little Squirt Science session. Through stories and hands-on activities, we'll explore the fiery star and natural satellite. Registration is required and begins on March 14. Parent/child interaction during these sessions is necessary to foster a child's success, which is best accomplished through undivided attention.

Pi/e Day Celebration for All Ages!

Build an original creation at home, then bring it to the Main Library on Wednesday, Dec. 27 between 11 and 12 p.m. Judging will begin at 12 p.m. and winners will be announced at 12:45 p.m. Games and other activities will take place in the Children's Room to pass the time while we await the judges' decisions.

Volunteer with the River Keepers - CANCELLED

Volunteer and help out with the River Keepers! Learn about the River Keepers, what they do, and how to get involved. Then head outside for a hands-on service project. Birding 101 for Kids with Audubon Dakota

Fargo Public Library

Kids ages 7 to 12 are invited to find out the answers to these and other questions when we go in search of different bird species with staff from Audubon Dakota, as we walk to one of the organization's nearby Urban Woods and Prairies sites. Learn to properly use binoculars (a limited number will be available for use, or bring your own) and find out about the characteristics used to identify birds that are common to our region. Pre-registration is required. (Children ages 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.)

Online Presentation: "Youth in Revolt: Alexander Hamilton and Coming of Age in the American Revolution"

Join us as Donald Johnson, Assistant Professor of Early American History at NDSU, uses the career of Alexander Hamilton and others to explore how the American Revolution affected the lives of those who came of age during the political crisis that preceded it, the War that it led to, and the chaotic period that ensued. At the dawn of the Revolution, more than 1/3 of Americans were under the age of 24. While older Revolutionaries like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin may have pioneered the ideology of rebellion, it fell to younger founders like Alexander Hamilton and James Madison to do much of the fighting and governing in the post-Revolutionary landscape. This presentation explores both how these individuals’ lives were shaped by the Revolution and how those young people shaped the course of Revolutionary events.
